The PCR was developed to provide prescriptive rules and guidelines on the development of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for certain types of steel products to increase consistency and transparency across the steel industry. AISI sponsored and served as a technical lead in the development of the updated version, which was published under Program Operator <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/smartepd.com\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Smart EPD<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. The guidelines were developed over the course of more than a year through a committee structure comprised of nearly 30 participants from industry, consulting, academia, government agencies and others \u2014 including many AISI members.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cAISI is proud to have helped lead this far-reaching effort to update the guidelines that govern the calculation methodology and reporting requirements for certain steel products. Our goal is to ensure that EPDs for steel products are comprehensive and consistent in their reporting of environmental impacts. This is a significant step in documenting the American steel industry\u2019s leadership as the cleanest among leading steel-producing countries,\u201d said Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO of AISI.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The updated version of the guidelines supersedes previous iterations and is valid for five years.
