{"id":9768,"date":"2024-12-23T23:10:52","date_gmt":"2024-12-23T23:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/steelorg.wpenginepowered.com\/?p=9768"},"modified":"2024-12-23T23:10:52","modified_gmt":"2024-12-23T23:10:52","slug":"steel-imports-down-13-7-in-november-vs-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.steel.org\/2024\/12\/steel-imports-down-13-7-in-november-vs-october\/","title":{"rendered":"Steel Imports Down 13.7% In November vs. October"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Finished Import Market Share YTD at 23%<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2013 Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that the U.S. imported a total of 2,067,000 net tons (NT) of steel in November 2024, including 1,593,000 net tons (NT) of finished steel (down 13.7% and 13.5%, respectively, vs. October 2024). Total and finished steel imports are up 2.5% and 3.0%, respectively, year-to-date vs. 2023. Over the 12-month period December 2023 to November 2024, total and finished steel imports are up 1.9% and 1.6%, respectively, vs. the prior 12-month period. Finished steel import market share was an estimated 21% in November and is estimated at 23% over the first eleven months of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Key steel products with a significant import increase in November compared to October are oil country goods (up 45%), sheet and strip all other metallic coated (up 33%) and line pipe (up 22%). Products with a significant increase in imports over the 12-month period December 2023 to November 2024 compared to the previous 12-month period include sheets and strip all other metallic coated (up 46%), sheets and strip hot dipped galvanized (up 36%), cold rolled sheets (up 24%), tin plate (up 23%) and wire rods (up 19%).<\/p>\n<p>In November, the largest suppliers were Canada (475,000 NT, down 13% from October), Brazil (306,000 NT, down 16%), Mexico (282,000 NT, down 22%), South Korea (179,000 NT, up 10%), and Vietnam (120,000 NT, up 18%). Over the 12-month period December 2023 to November 2024, the largest suppliers were Canada (6,575,000 NT, down 4% compared to the previous twelve months), Brazil (4,719,000 NT, up 29%), Mexico (3,482,000 NT, down 19%), South Korea (2,869,000 NT, up 10%) and Vietnam (1,291,000 NT, up 136%).
